Bethany Foxon
Photonics Engineer

After completing a PhD in cold atom physics from the University of Nottingham, working on coherent clock states generation for use in quantum metrology devices, Bethany is now working on cavity locking and optical modelling for the Nu Quantum single-photon source platform.

Cofounder & CEO

Company co-founder and CEO, Carmen is an award-winning Quantum physicist and inventor, listed in Forbes magazine as a ‘Founders Forum Rising Star 2021’. In 2018, Carmen was awarded the Jocelyn Bell Burnell Medal and Prize for her work on 2D materials and Quantum optics, and for discovering and patenting the unique single-photon source technology which has since been commercialised by Nu Quantum.

Himanshu Shekhar
Device Engineer

Himanshu joined Nu Quantum from the Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC) at the University of Cambridge, and previously worked at IBM, after completing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Technion Institute, Israel. Himanshu brings to Nu Quantum his experience in the design, fabrication, characterization, and integration of photonics and optoelectronic components such as photodetectors, image sensors, modulators, etc., using advanced quantum materials.

Management Team
Responsible for leading the engineering development to commercialise Nu Quantum's technology, John has over 20 years’ experience in the electronics and wireless telecommunications industry, previously holding senior engineering roles at Zinwave, Cisco, Radioscape and Ubiquisys. John also previously spent time in the academic world lecturing in digital electronics. John holds BScEng and MScEng degrees in Electronic Engineering, and is a Chartered Engineer.
John Jarman
Photonics Engineer

John carried out his PhD in the Materials Science department at the University of Cambridge, focusing on InGaN quantum dots and their integration into electrical and optical systems, and followed by a postdoctoral research period focusing on the optical properties and spin physics of single atomic-scale defects in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) at the QOMS group in the Cavendish laboratory.
Lauren McKenzie-Sell
Software Engineer

Lauren’s quantum background began during her honours research in physics at the University of Sydney, where she simulated materials for quantum computing, followed by a PhD in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology from the University of Cambridge Doctoral Training Centre for Nanotechnology, including collaboration with Hitachi Cambridge Laboratories. Lauren also trained in entrepreneurship with the Cambridge Judge Business School.
Laiyi Weng
Engineer

Laiyi is a quantum optics experimentalist with a background in materials science and engineering, getting his D.Phil. in Materials Science from the University of Oxford. Experienced in solid-state spin qubits in diamond and photonic cavity design for quantum information applications, Laiyi is passionate about innovations in the quantum technology industry.
Mete Atatüre
Cofounder & CSO

Mete has led groundbreaking research at the Cavendish Laboratory for over 10 years where he is co-founder of the Atomic, Mesoscopic and Optical Physics (AMOP) Group. His group’s research interests and expertise are within the scope of solid-state based quantum science and technologies with particular focus on quantum network subsystem development and diamond-based nanoscale quantum sensors. Highlights from his research group include demonstrating first single-shot optical readout of spin qubits, enhancing the nanodiamond NV sensors sensitivity by 10-fold and constructing a hybrid photonic network between trapped ion and solid-state spin quantum nodes.
Victor Serdio

With a Bachelor in Engineering Physics from Tecnológico de Monterrey Mexico and a PhD in Materials Science from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Victor Received the 2015 Innovator of the Year Award by the MIT Technology Review. He is also the co-founder of another University spin-out company using Silicon device technology from his PhD.

One of Nu Quantum’s founding team, Yuri brings 20 years’ experience of technology innovation in start-ups, research institutes and multinationals as a scientist, manager and director, including CEO of Angoka, Chairman of QLM Technology, and also Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Bristol QTEC (Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre).

Anne Glover
Investor Director

An active venture capitalist for 30 years, Anne is CEO and Co-founder of the international technology investor, Amadeus Capital Partners. Anne holds an MA from Clare College, University of Cambridge, and an MPPM from Yale School of Management. She was awarded a CBE in 2006 for services to business, is an honorary fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Hemant has a successful track record of leading, scaling and commercialising technology businesses in the telecoms, biometrics, semiconductor and security sectors. Previous roles have included CEO of IDEX ASA, CEO of Filtronic Plc, and also Chair and Director of BluWireless. Hemant is focussed on helping high growth technology companies achieve commercial success.
